The CCP holds its “Two Sessions” this week

CCP Two Sessions

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will hold its annual Two Sessions in Beijing from March 4 to March 11, setting key political, economic, and legislative agendas for 2025 and beyond.

The Two Sessions refer to the concurrent meetings of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)—China’s most significant annual political event. These sessions serve as a platform for high-ranking officials and industry leaders to formalize policies aligned with the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) strategic direction.

This year’s primary focus will likely be China’s deteriorating economy, as structural issues in real estate, local government debt, and employment continue to worsen. Additionally, the return of U.S. President Donald Trump and his expected tariffs and hardline policies toward China may further constrain Beijing’s economic maneuverability, raising pressure on leadership to formulate a decisive response.

In the short term, the passage of economic and financial stimulus measures aimed at stabilizing growth is likely. However, these efforts may fall short of addressing China’s systemic economic challenges, offering only temporary relief. In the medium to long term, Beijing faces a strategic dilemma—whether to allocate resources toward domestic stabilization or to reserve economic leverage for potential trade confrontations with the U.S. While a balanced approach remains an option, geopolitical tensions and economic decoupling suggest a more confrontational trajectory ahead.
