The 2022 Stakeholder Dialogue Series begins today at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Dakar, Senegal.

The event intends to facilitate cooperation between civil society organizations, think tanks and other relevant actors to foster policy dialogues and strengthen peace and security frameworks in Africa. Over the last two years, recent coups and coup attempts in Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger and Mali have increased concerns about the strength of democratic processes in the region. The forum will discuss strategies to complement and bolster the Economic Community of West African States’ Conflict Prevention Framework.

The Stakeholder Dialogue Series is a part of KAIPTC’s five-year plan, with the objective of developing a platform for relevant stakeholders and institutional actors concerned with peace and security in Africa. In the short term, the forum will be an important step in capacity building and the operationalization of ECOWAS’ Conflict Prevention Framework. In the medium and long term, this forum will develop into a place where innovative strategies can be developed and Africa’s top security challenges, including unconstitutional changes of government, violent extremism and terrorism can be discussed.
